                                                        From the Rector
Recently we heard the gospel (John 21) about the risen Jesus greeting his followers while they
had not caught one fish all night long.  He tells them to do something different and they follow his
request, though they had never done it that way before.  Remarkably, they catch 153 large fish,
and then recognize that it is Jesus.
The way that Peter, Thomas, Nathanael, James and John and two others, were used to fishing,
just did not work for them.  We too, do the same things, again and again, which do not work for us.
Have you ever noticed that the Eucharistic rubrics of the Book of Common Prayer indicate where
we are to stand or kneel, and conversely to kneel or stand?  Notice also, that we do more kneeling
during penitential seasons like Advent and Lent?  And we do more standing during times of
thanksgiving and Easter.
The framers of our current Prayer Book were very intentional about times to kneel and times to
stand that fit the theology and the season.  And they have commented that standing is a preferred
posture during much of our prayer, especially the Eucharistic Great Thanksgiving Prayer.
Let us remember that this is Easter.  Easter is a time for celebrating and rejoicing that we are a
forgiven and redeemed and risen people.  Our worship finds meaning in the ways that we show
thanks for the joy that we feel.  And so since Christ is Risen indeed, and let us live into that
posture of worshiping and living.  Remember that we are inviting those who are able to do this, so
do what you are able to do, and sit to rest, when you need to.  May you have the joy of many
blessings in this Easter season.

                                                            ALTAR GUILD:

Thanks to all who gave lilies and decorations for the church for our Easter celebration.  There
are bulbs from the lilies in the sacristy if you would like to get any to plant in your yard.  Those
that are left will be planted at the church. Thanks also to all those who helped with the flowers
posts, vases and with the polishing and preparing for Easter morning.  It takes a lot of hands to
get things ready for Easter Sunday morning.  I appreciate everyone who came out to help:  Elsie
and Judson LaRoche, Clydie Ditterline Wynette and Mike Ginn, Ethel Soles, Miss Shirlee, Amy
and James Floyd, Imogene Yongue, Liz and Taylor Zoumberis, Audrey Eakes, Hazel Dunbar,
Mary Cordes, Karen Marks, Peggy Dale, and Art Christie.

Box Tops for Education and Campbell’s Soup Labels

Thank you to everyone who has been saving labels and box tops. Please keep them coming in so
we can continue to support Westside Elementary in this project. The beginning of April we gave
them $27 worth of box tops and 567 Campbell’s labels. Westside combines them with others that
have been collected to purchase equipment for their school. If you have not been saving them,
please try to get in the habit of collecting them. We didn’t have quite as many boxtops this year
as we have had in the past. The school receives 10 cents for each boxtop that is sent in. All it
takes is a tiny bit of time to cut these off the cans or boxes. Always be on the lookout for bonus
labels and coupons. If you have any questions, please contact Dot Bogardus 953-0681. As you
come to church you can place them in the container for the food pantry or in the DOK box with my
name on it.
